Lady Sylvia Herman MP was the special guest of honour as the Donaghadee Lawn Tennis Club took a walk down memory lane this week. Period dress, wooden rackets and flat caps were all on display as the club celebrated its 85th anniversary and annual open day last Saturday afternoon.
After giving a brief history of the club, which included the fact that the club’s establishment date of 1928 coincided with women getting equal voting rights, the local MP delighted club members by unveiling a new board displaying the names of club captains.
The local club, based at The Commons in Donaghadee, continues to celebrate success on and off the court, boasting several members of the Ulster Tennis squad, numerous league trophies in recent years and award of the prestigious Ulster Tennis Clubmark recognising excellence in all aspects of club affairs.
Despite the weather a great day was had by all – roll on the 100th anniversary!
